I've gotten somewhat used to knocking instead of applauding, but it still doesn't come naturally...

    I take it that is the norm in Germany. I would find it different as well. Is anyone offended if you applaud instead of knocking?

      Well, that's the thing. We sometimes applaud too, and it's confusing. Gah!
