Not that weird

Sorry for the irregular updates! I haven't quite organized my thoughts and impressions on being back in Japan for the first time in 3 years, but so far it hasn't been that strange. It also may be because I'm in a town I don't know that well (and not Tokyo) and things are a lot quieter here, but it's nice to see my parents and eat lots of Japanese food. But I do miss G and Berlin already . . . !

  1. Would you call this a reverse culture shock? When I got back from Japan, I was weirded out by the fact that Norwegian supermarkets didn't have muzak and cassette players constantly going on about today's special offers. I had gotten used to that, high-tech toilets, and also the fact that I'd see people wearing masks all the time...

    1. I think so, but it's really mild this time around! Oh my god, the muzak and the cassette players are DRIVING ME INSANE. I'm just thankful I don't have to walk around Shinjuku with all the crazy people with megaphones screeching out their daily deals . . . eek!

    2. Ow, that'd be even worse… I'm glad I lived in Kyoto, which I suppose is probably quieter than Tokyo in general.

    3. Kyoto sounds so nice! I have a friend who went to uni in Kyoto and she said it was great because she could bike everywhere (unthinkable in Tokyo) . . . THAT in itself is pretty awesome, in addition to all the other perks of it being a beautiful city and whatnot!!
