Sorry for the irregular updates! I haven't quite organized my thoughts and impressions on being back in Japan for the first time in 3 years, but so far it hasn't been
that strange. It also may be because I'm in a town I don't know that well (and not Tokyo) and things are a lot quieter here, but it's nice to see my parents and eat lots of Japanese food. But I do miss G and Berlin already . . . !
Would you call this a reverse culture shock? When I got back from Japan, I was weirded out by the fact that Norwegian supermarkets didn't have muzak and cassette players constantly going on about today's special offers. I had gotten used to that, high-tech toilets, and also the fact that I'd see people wearing masks all the time...
ReplyDeleteI think so, but it's really mild this time around! Oh my god, the muzak and the cassette players are DRIVING ME INSANE. I'm just thankful I don't have to walk around Shinjuku with all the crazy people with megaphones screeching out their daily deals . . . eek!
DeleteOw, that'd be even worse… I'm glad I lived in Kyoto, which I suppose is probably quieter than Tokyo in general.
DeleteKyoto sounds so nice! I have a friend who went to uni in Kyoto and she said it was great because she could bike everywhere (unthinkable in Tokyo) . . . THAT in itself is pretty awesome, in addition to all the other perks of it being a beautiful city and whatnot!!
