Haha, that's soo funny AND true! Most of my German and Austrian friends had never heard of/seen the movie, and the ones who have regard it, perhaps rightfully so, as "American kitsch."
By the by, there were some fellow non-European tourists last time I was in Salzburg and I ALMOST joined in on them singing this song in the Mirabell Gardens. :)
Ooh yeah, you're definitely right about "American kitsch." I watched it for the first time when I was 7 or 8, so I was convinced it was the most amazing thing ever, but it is pretty cheesy! And haha!! I'm sure the Austrians would have been very confused...!
