Getting an Email

I guess it kind of makes sense considering how many people I lost contact with once I deactivated my Facebook account.

Cavewoman

All Japanese cell phones, no matter how shitty they are, come with their own email addresses, and a lot of Japanese people use their cell phone email as their main email address. (SMS is virtually useless in Japan.) It was super-convenient but I mostly ended up hating it because my work would email me 24/7 and expect me to write back instantaneously because I couldn't use the old "I was away from my computer all day" excuse. And no one (no one!) leaves their cell phone at home. I hated being superconnected all the time and I'm so happy to be in a country where it's pretty normal to have a shitty pay-as-you-go Nokia that can text and call for 9 cents a minute.

Why'd you bother?

A while ago, someone I hadn't spoken to in about two years sent me a quick email asking me how I was doing, where I was, what I was up to, etc. It's not easy to sum up two years in a sentence, so I ended up writing about four paragraphs or so filling him in on stuff. He wrote back three weeks later with a 3-sentence reply. Seriously. Why did you bother in the first place?

All is well on the food front, however. I followed the Meh blog recipe and made chicken sweetcorn soup. Oh man. I used to love to order this whenever we went out for Chinese food. It didn't turn out as pretty (and the egg not as fluffy...lots of things I still need to improve on!), but it was delicious. Thanks T!

Some more translation work, then baking a cake, making dinner, and getting ready for the film festival tonight.

Food Mail

Off to Riga at noon tomorrow (today, technically) and I know I won't get around to updating my blog, so here's one while I still have time!

Youth is Stupidity

I was kind of an idiot when I was applying for universities . . .
I think I signed up for a proper, mature email address soon after that. I can't remember which college it was that called me up or if I were accepted there. Probably not. Haha.

But yes. I'm sure we've all had stupid email addresses in the past. Eh?

Something

Hello hello and Happy Monday!

Whenever I don't check my mail for over 12 hours, I start to get antsy and worried that something important's come in and I'm going to be in trouble because I didn't attend to it immediately. I never know what this something might be, but something.

The truth is, I don't really get anything hugely important or urgent in my inbox anymore, so I can stop freaking out already.
