Pre-Eating

I'm small(ish), but I have a pretty big appetite. Hence, pre-eating.

Reasons for pre-eating:

(1) When I think the restaurant we're going to is going to be expensive. (So that I'll eat less and hence spend less money. Mostly in Japan. ha!)

(2) When I don't think the food is going to be that good. (So I don't have to eat too much.)

(3) When I don't think the food will be enough.

(4) When I'm going to meet someone for the first time, so I don't have to concentrate too much on the food and not enough on the person. (I talk very little when I'm nervous about meeting someone new, ie. for work/interview/date.)

Does anyone else do this?

Yes! I'm totally with you on that one. I get really full and uncomfortable when I eat quickly on an empty stomach too. So glad I'm not the only one!! :D

  3. yes. also for other reasons: when the food is going to be too spicy or when the eating time is going to happen very late. Usually these two things happen when you are invited to dinner at someone's house.

  4. Ha! The spicy thing is new to me, but that makes sense. And I totally agree with the latter reason. In any case, great to see that other people do this too!

  5. Dang! That's something I should do. But I usually pre-eat anyway because I can't wait. Restaurant visits on impulse are perfect for me, but planned visits... oof, tough. Especially when I eat with Italians... :<
    "Let's meet up at 9PM!"
    (at 9:30)
    "Everybody's here! Let's go in!"
    (at 10:00)
    "Let's order a drink first!"
