North American Friendliness

I still think the people in Berlin are quite friendly, but the level of friendliness in North America is just unbelievable.

  1. sometimes i had the impression that the friendliness was fake. like saying "have a nice day" for every customer. it sounded almost like "fuck you".

    1. Some were definitely fake-sounding and even unfriendlier than if they'd kept quiet, but some people were just so genuinely friendly that it made me so happy to be back in Canada. Good old Canadian friendliness.

    1. Yup, we were in Canada! And it IS a pretty great place to go shopping in general! The American or Canadian brand clothes and shoes were so much cheaper than in Europe!

  3. ... you really should know Brazil. Here friendliness is insane. Except on my city. Here we are all very entitled.

    1. I'd love to travel to Brazil one day . . . but I should learn some Portuguese so I can do some friendly small talk!

  4. nothing wrong with a bit of friendliness even if it gets to be faked, rather that than the honest and direct unfriendliness of some berliners!

    1. It's true, coming from Berlin, it was a HUGE contrast! I mean, I ran into some pretty grumpy people in Canada and the US too, but not to the extent of grumpiness I've seen here. Although I find Berlin to be generally pretty all right . . . or maybe I should make a few visits to public offices.

    1. After 3 years of being away from North America, I was a little bit taken aback, but I got used to it right away! I kind of miss it again...!
