The Trip

I'm alive! I know, I've done it again – this whole disappearing-and-reappearing act. Almost exactly a year ago, I went on my bicycle trip in Brandenburg, and now – on Tuesday – I'm finally presenting the final product. I'm sorry about the silence – it was kind of a rough year and I couldn't bring myself to do an update. If you're reading this, though, thanks for checking back!

I wanted to give you a little glimpse of the book:

Here's the cover:

And here's a page of the book.

To be completely honest, I can't even bear to look at the book anymore, but I'm planning on making the PDF of the book available to everyone online and to maybe sell a few copies of the book. I'll do that in April, so check back for updates!

Schwedt to Passow

Here's another page that I might use in the thesis — the one and only time during the entire trip where I thought I could maybe get hurt. Obviously, this wasn't a highway but was a stupid, stupid route to take and I was scared shitless for the entire 10km stretch.

Komfortzone

I'm making slow but steady progress on my comic - I have to think so differently because I'm not used to doing such long stories. Sometimes I feel like I'm dwelling too long on a scene or moving too quickly...but I'm playing it by ear as I go along.

Here's an uncolored page...although I kind of like the way this looks, too!

Sauna

So...I've finally started sketching stuff for my Master thesis project, a graphic novel about my month-long bike trip in Brandenburg. My trip to the sauna is one of my favorite anecdotes, so I figured I'd test the water with this one. I'll probably more post thesis-related things from now on, so bear with me until...uh, April!

T-1

Holy crap, where did the time go? I'm leaving tomorrow morning to start my first ever 34-day solo bike tour in the state of Brandenburg. You know the feeling where you've made a list, made a plan, packed everything, checked everything a gazillion times and you still feel like you're missing something? This week has been kind of an emotional rollercoaster, and as anxious as I am about this whole trip, I'm looking forward to getting started already.

Since I won't have a computer with me, I will be posting only on my Instagram account in the next month (http://www.instagram.com/bringmebonsai/). Don't worry, you'll be able to see the account from a browser without having an account! It probably won't be daily comics, but maybe daily doodles and photos.

For those of you who are interested: Brandenburg is one of the 16 federal states of Germany which was formerly part of the GDR. It surrounds Berlin like a misshapen donut and has a population of approx. 2.5 million. (Berlin has a population of 3.7 million even though it's 1/30 the size of Brandenburg.)

So...here goes nothing. Wish me luck!

Last Few Days

Sorry for the silence! This is what I've been up to in the last few days. 3 more days till I take off!

Anxiety

Feeling very uninspired this weekend, hence the last of comics in the last two days! Maybe it's the anxiety setting in.

Brandenburg

As I've mentioned in a few previous comics, I am going on a month-long solo bike trip in the state of Brandenburg in a few weeks. I made this comic today as part of a second round of inquiries I am sending out to look for people to meet and interview during my my trip. For a lack of a normal comic I am posting this here, but if you happen to know someone in Brandenburg...please send them my way: horibe (at) gmail.com! It would be great to have a  couple more interesting contacts.
