Bruno Santos - "Time to Tell"

A little late-evening artist endorsement time!

One of my close buddies from my Saudi days and fellow third-culture-kid friend of mine, Bruno Santos, has just released his debut solo album, Time to Tell, which was written, performed, produced, engineered and edited (well, basically he pretty much did everything) entirely by himself.

This charismatic polyglot (whom I've actually seen successfully sweet-talk AirFrance employees into letting him take on 100+kgs of music equipment without extra fees) is currently based in São Paulo after countless relocations around the world.

Anyway, I thought I would mention him here not only because he's a friend but also because he's a brilliantly talented artist about whom you could later brag that you've "totally been into him since he released his first album." To me, he kind of sounds like a one-man Matchbox Twenty with a twist. A Brazilian Jason Mraz. Or a mishmash of lot of my favourite artistsmany of them introduced to me by Bruno himself at the green age of 15. Anyway, seeing (or listening) is believing. Here's one my favourite tracks on the album, "Not the End" (free download available on his website) :

The Internets

Dear G, you has a lot (of unnecessary, useless things) to learn about the Internets.

Private Twitter Account

Okay, well, "private" in the sense that I don't actively link myself to people I personally know. Which isn't really . . . private. At all. Well, it's not like I say anything exciting on it, so yeah, you know.

I also noticed that my drawing of G = tall mama with a beard. HAHA.

Hungry

I generally try to keep everything inside, but it didn't quite work yesterday.

You look like an owl.

B told me about a weird incident that happened to her in a bar ...

"I might have felt otherwise if it had been in English, but because it was in German and in Berlin, I didn't feel too offended."

It's kind of true. Maybe it's that our German isn't good enough to catch on the subtle nuances, but things somehow seem to sound less offensive when said in German. Somehow.

Escalators = not animals

Here's a semi-oldie from Latvia. Thanks M for reminding me of this anecdote!

I'm going to be running a little 10K race here in October . . . and it's going to go through the zoo! I'm hoping I don't get too distracted by the animals. "Huff huff, 3 more kilometers . . . OMG TAPIR!"

It's very possible.

Airline Acronyms

Hello again, erratic Berlin summer weather. It was rainy and gloomy this morning, and suddenly it's back to being sticky and hot. It's supposed to get up to 33C on Friday and back down to 17C next week. It's no wonder people get sick all the time. (excuses, excuses)

Anyway, FB stalking a few of my airline-industry-friends (You know what, is it even "stalking" if it comes up on my newsfeed automatically? It's like forced-stalking...! Kind of.) today and I noticed that they use acronyms. A lot. To the point where I actually had to go look them up to understand the context of the thread. CKIN for check-in. PAX for passenger. A bunch of airport codes. So on and so forth.
I want to use some weird industry terms in my daily life and confuse people too.

Free Bathrooms

Free public bathrooms is a serious issue that doesn't really occur to you until you really gotta go.

Brain Lubricant

T, you're right. We did get sick. All of us!
I think my dad picked it up somewhere on Skye, but fortunately, my mom and I only got sick on the day we got back. I don't know what's happened, but my immune system has really gone downhill since moving to Berlin. This is at least my fourth time being sick this year. Weakling!

But yes. One of the great mysteries of the world: where is all this mucus coming from? Where does my body store this huge supply of mucus? I wish I could just find . . . ok, right. Enough of that.

Anyway, I'll end this mucous topic with a wonderful Calvin and Hobbes strip:

Bonne journée!

To Scotland and Back

Long time no blog! I was actually away on a road trip with my parents and just got back today. Apologies for the belated update . . . I'll be much more on the ball this week and so keep checking back!

See reference to Bremen trip here.

Manliness

Your bottle opener attached to your key ring? Yeah. Not so manly in Germany.

I just had...

...ahem. Yes?

For those of you who are clueless:

Why won't YouTube let me watch "I'm on a Boat"? Hurumphnut.

Horoscopes

My mom can be superstitious sometimes.

For those of you who are interested, here's the English Dobutsu Uranai (Animal Horoscopes) site. It was hugely popular about 10 years ago, but not so much anymore, probably...

Aliens, apparently

So yes. I'm glad everything is fine again.

On an entirely unrelated note, I had a dream last night that I was going to Tunisia alone for the holidays. Random.

Mine?

My parents were fighting all weekend, and my mom went on an organizing/throwin-stuff-away rampage...

My parents have since made up, but I'm still keeping her stuff. Ha!

Hairless Cat

Poor M likes cats but is allergic to them. This may be the answer.
